Limerick garda warning as man pays large amount of cash for ‘dud’ iPhone

GARDAI in Limerick are warning members of the public to be vigilant when buying goods and products which have been advertised for sale on social media.

The warning follows a recent incident during which a man handed over a substantial amount of cash for a dud phone.

“He bought an iPhone X from an advertisement online and travelled a distance to Limerick to collect it. All seemed well and he paid cash for the iPhone,” said Sergeant Ber Leetch.

“Shortly afterwards he was having difficulty with the phone and when he brought it to a repair shop he was informed it was not an iPhone X at all,” she added.

Gardai say potential buyers have to be cautious when buying from strangers as they have no comeback.

“This gentleman is out of pocket for a considerable amount of cash and left with a useless dud phone,” said Sgt Leetch.
