COURIERS and delivery men in Limerick are being urged to lock their vans and protect their property when dropping off packages to homes and businesses between now and Christmas.

There have been a number of incidents in recent weeks during which delivery vans or trucks have been targeted.

In one incident a phone was stolen from a van which the driver had not locked while in another case, a wallet was taken from a van which was left unattended for a short period of time.

”Any valuable personal property must be kept on you at all times,” said divisional crime prevention officer Sergeant Ber Leetch who says greater vigilance is needed.

“Delivery men, whether they are delivering home heating oil or packages, need to be a lot more careful in general about the safety of their property,” she added.
