Garda John Finnerty: People should not carry cash

GARDAI in Limerick are urging members of the public to be vigilant when handling cash between now and Christmas.

People are being advised not to hoard large amounts of cash at home and they should not carry large sums of cash on their person at any time.

“Everyone should give careful attention to their cash handling methods and be aware of the risks associated with carrying cash,” said Garda John Finnerty.

Cash that is needed for immediate use should be kept secure in an inside pocket while any cash that is not needed should be lodged in a bank or other financial institution.

“With the advance of internet banking, phone banking, credit cards and debit cards there is no requirement on anyone to carry much cash,” added Garda Finnerty.
