GARDAI in Limerick have arrested four burglary suspects following a dramatic foot chase through a field.

Gardai said the four men – three in their late teens and one in his 20s – were arrested following two burglary incidents in County Limerick on Monday.

A spokesperson said: “At approximately 11am, gardai received a report of an attempted burglary at a house in Patrickswell. A description of the suspects involved and the car they were seen driving off in was circulated to all members on duty in Limerick.

“A short time later, gardai were called to the scene of a road traffic collision in Ballingarry, in which four men were seen running into nearby fields. Following a short foot chase, all four men were arrested and brought to Roxboro Road and Newcastle West Garda Stations where they were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.”

The spokesperson added that, following the men’s arrest, gardai became aware of another burglary that had occurred at a house in Banogue earlier that day.

All four men have since been charged in relation to these incidents and are due to appear before Limerick District Court this Tuesday at 10.30am.
