SEVEN “outstanding” students at the University of Limerick have been presented with scholarships by the president after performing exceptionally well in their academic studies.

UL President Dr Des Fitzgerald presented seven students with access scholarship awards to support their studies in subjects like Science, Business and Engineering.

Among this year’s recipients are Jordan O’Connor, a student of Business Studies with French from Raheen; Deirdre O’Connor, a Business Studies student from Limerick city; Daniel Flynn, a student of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Castlemahon, Co Limerick, and Ashley Storan, an Industrial Biochemistry student from Limerick city.

Anthony Kavanagh, a Technology Management student from Claremorris, Co Mayo; John-James Kelly, an Aeronautical Engineering student from Kildare Town, and Joseph Greaney, a Science in Computer Games Development student from Listowel, Co Kerry are also among this year’s President’s Access Scholars.

Since the President’s Access Scholarship Awards were launched in 2011, 38 Access scholarships have been presented to UL students.

“All of today’s scholarship recipients have performed exceptionally well in academic studies,” Dr Fitzgerald said.

“I have no doubt that the ambition and determination that brought them here today will propel them through the opportunities and challenges to come.”
