THE election of the next metropolitan district mayor will take place on Monday, June 25, at 10am.

It represents a departure from the norm.

The day the election normally takes place is on a Friday at the end of the same month.

Under a power-sharing deal mapped out in 2014 between Fianna Fail and Fine Gael, Cllr Daniel Butler is expected to secure the chain of office.

The next metropolitan meeting will take place on March 20.
