GARDAI in Limerick are investigating after two young men were assaulted during separate late night incidents which happened less than an hour apart in the early hours of Sunday morning.

One man was taken to University Hospital Limerick after gardai encountered him while on patrol at Carr Street at around 2.30am while the second incident happened at nearby Cornmarket Row at around 3.30am.

"Both assaults happened in the early hours of last Sunday and both in Limerick city centre,” said a garda spokesperson.

"The first one was at 2.30am on Carr Street. Gardai came across an injured man in his early 20s. He had been assaulted by another man but no description could be provided by the injured man. His injuries were not serious but he was brought to University Hospital Limerick as a precaution.

"The second assault happened an hour later at 3.30am on Cornmarket Row. In this case a young man in his late teens was assaulted by a man, again no better description is available. He received a nose injury and he too was brought to UHL as a precaution," added the spokesperson.

Gardai at Henry Street are investigating both assaults and they are appealing for witnesses to either assault to contact them at 061 212400.
