LIMERICK Fire and Rescue Service have warned car owners of the dangers of double parking on narrow roadways in case emergency access is required.

A post on their social media accounts this Monday reads: “Overnight, crews were faced with restricted access to an incident due to parked vehicles.”

The nature of the incident that firefighters were rushing to, or location, is not known at this time.

An accompanying photo shows the difficulty faced by the fire truck's driver.

“Double parking on narrow roadways and vehicles parked at junctions or on bends can delay or hinder response to an emergency incident.

“Likewise vehicles parked in turning bays in housing estates can present challenges to drivers. Our vehicles need over 3.5 metres clearance to pass by safely.”

The post concludes by asking motorists to “think before you park up”.

“Emergency vehicles may require access when you least expect it.”
