LIMERICK City and County Council has launched Limerick on Foot 2026, a new initiative promoting walking trails across the city and county.
The programme highlights family-friendly routes in Killeedy, Kilmallock and Adare, encouraging locals and visitors to embrace healthier habits, enjoy the outdoors, and explore Limerick’s rich heritage.
The new guide features 33 trails, 27 across County Limerick and six in the city offering everything from gentle strolls to more challenging hikes.
In Kilmallock, walkers can enjoy a scenic loop through medieval streets and monuments, taking in the town’s history and cultural landmarks.
In Killeedy, the Eco Park Trail provides a peaceful 13-acre community space, with native trees, biodiversity zones, and an outdoor learning area for children. Meanwhile, the Adare Village Walking Trail follows a calm riverside stretch along the Maigue, where walkers can spot local wildlife and enjoy the natural surroundings.
Each trail is supported with printed maps, activity sheets, video content, and social media promotion, making it easy for people to walk, run, or wheel at their own pace.
Mayor John Moran said, “Limerick on Foot encourages everyone to enjoy their surroundings while improving physical and mental wellbeing.”
Príomh Chomhairleoir Cllr Catherine Slattery added, “These walks celebrate local heritage, community spirit, and sustainable outdoor recreation.”
Developed with support from the Department of Rural and Community Development, local community groups, and the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme, Limerick on Foot invites everyone to explore and get moving.
