Askeaton Pool & Leisure will finally be fully operational from Friday the 5th of December, ahead of its formal reopening by Minister for Culture, Communications & Sport Patrick O’Donovan next Monday.
The confirmation comes as welcome news to residents after last month’s unexpectedly delayed launch, which prompted frustration among councillors and the wider community.
The update marks a significant turnaround from the situation outlined at the November meeting of the Rathkeale–Adare Municipal District, where elected representatives sharply criticised the handling of the initial reopening date.
Councillors were informed just 72 hours before the planned launch that the pool would not reopen due to outstanding water-quality tests.

Cllr Adam Teskey said the late notification had undermined confidence in the process, while Cllr Stephen Keary argued that responsibility ultimately rested with the local authority, stressing the need to protect both public safety and the investment in the newly refurbished facility.
Friday's operational start, coupled with next week’s official reopening and Minister O’Donovan’s visit, which will also include marking the completion of major refurbishment works at Grove Island Leisure Centre in Limerick City , signals a positive shift forward after weeks of uncertainty.
Swim Ireland, the appointed operators, have now confirmed that full details on membership and bookings are available through their website, and the local authority has expressed appreciation for public patience throughout the process.
