A RARE opportunity could present itself to couples going on a pre-Christmas shopping trip to New York.

If they will be in the Big Apple on Friday, November 22 they could take a trip, after visiting the Statue of Liberty, to Mulino’s at Lake Isle Country Club in Eastchester for a celebration of Limerick hurling.

Kilmallock native Eddie Wiley, chair of Club Limerick New York (CLNY), said they are very proud and honoured to have John Kiely as the esteemed and well-deserving guest of honour at the dinner dance. He said the event is in recognition of Limerick’s historic six-in-a-row Munster final victories.

“John took up his role as Limerick manager in 2016 and with his unique talent, wisdom and foresight, has brought this team to where they are today, achieving historic and unprecedented success both in the Munster and All-Ireland hurling championships.

“John is known for his ability to empower people to be the best they can be. He has been lauded by his peers for bringing enormous energy and enthusiasm to many aspects of life both on and off the field of play. John has attended all of CLNY’s previous dances - and has survived to tell the tale! - and always expresses his gratitude for the support that New York has provided,” said Mr Wiley, father of 2023 Rose of Tralee Róisín Wiley.

Club Limerick New York was formed in 2019 by a small of group of Limerick ex-pats as a result of our hurlers bridging a 45-year gap and winning the All-Ireland in 2018.

Their primary mission is to support all things Limerick GAA and other Limerick interests in New York and Ireland. It continues to donate to many organisations by giving back to the community that has supported it so enthusiastically since inception.

Tickets are $150 per person and $1,500 per table which includes dinner and five-hour open bar. CLNY is also compiling a souvenir journal in conjunction with this event.
