ON SEPTEMBER 7, Limerick people are being asked to rally the troops to support the 24-hour Relay for Life Limerick in Croagh GAA Club.
The event will support those currently availing of the services of the Irish Cancer Society, by contributing to funding for research, as well as remembering those who have been lost to cancer.
Participants will team up and take it in turns to walk through the day and night and the event will feature music and entertainment throughout.
The family friendly event will also feature a Candle of Hope ceremony to remember those who had cancer and are no longer with us.
Relay for Life Limerick in Croagh will start at 1pm on September 7 and run for 24 hours, with people constantly on the move throughout the fundraiser.
Nicola Hogan from Rathkeale Co. Limerick said: “In March 2021, we lost my brother’s fiancé to cancer. I saw first-hand the challenges she faced, from treatments to the emotional toll of a diagnosis. I also saw the impact losing her had on loved ones, and the support that is needed.
“I first got involved in the Irish Cancer Society Relay for Life because I wanted to support a cause that had touched my own life so dramatically.”
Rosemary Simmons, Director of Fundraising and Marketing at the Irish Cancer Society, said: “The people of Limerick have enthusiastically supported Relay for Life, and in doing so have generously supported the work of The Irish Cancer Society to help fund vital cancer services and research. All of those involved in the event have showed such dedication and commitment and we look forward to seeing Limerick people coming together for this special event.”
