Talks to be held over improvement of play park in Limerick

Council to enter dialogue with Crescent Shopping Centre bosses
LIMERICK City and County Council bosses are to hold talks with the owners of the Crescent Shopping Centre with a view to upgrading the playground beside the centre.
At this month’s metropolitan meeting, Cllr Joe Leddin saw a motion passed asking local authority bosses to open talks to improve the playground with inclusive equipment geared towards children with special needs.
It comes off the back of the revamp of the play area in the People’s Park.
The Labour City West councillor feels the playground beside the Dooradoyle shopping centre has served its purpose.
“Having completed a full canvass of Raheen and Dooradoyle, I know there are hundreds of new houses. There’s hundreds of new young families.
“While we are doing great work in Mungret in terms of the recreation and amenity facilities there, the reality is Raheen and Dooradoyle lacks certain facilities,” said Cllr Leddin.
He highlighted there is a green area adjacent, where the playground can be expanded with new equipment.
Council senior engineer Aidan Finn said talks will take place with the shopping centre owners.
This upgrade, he added, will be done with the hope of adding inclusive play equipment.
Separately, talks are taking place between the council and local clubs with a view to developing cricket infrastructure in Mungret Park.
