Farewell event cancelled for Limerick judge at centre of soldier assault case

Planned speeches will not now go ahead
A FAREWELL event for Judge Tom O'Donnell due to take place this Wednesday, June 26 has been cancelled, Limerick Live has learned.
There has been a maelstrom of publicity surrounding the long-serving judge's decision not to jail soldier Cathal Crotty for viciously assaulting Natasha O'Brien, and then boasting about it hours after the attack on social media.

Judge O'Donnell has served in the legal system in Limerick for almost 50 years, as a judge of both the district and circuit courts, and as a solicitor prior to that. He was due to take his place on the bench for the last time on Wednesday before retirement.
However, Limerick Live has learned this Monday evening that the judge will not be in Limerick Courthouse, Mulgrave Street, on Wednesday and planned speeches will not now go ahead.
Earlier this Monday, ROSA - Socialist Feminist Movement, had called for protests at Judge O'Donnell's last court sitting this Wednesday at 1pm outside the courthouse.
