Limerick hurling keepsake raises thousands for charity

MANY people think that Luimneach Abu means Up Limerick or C’mon Limerick but of course it translates to Limerick Forever.

When the Limerick senior hurling team won the All-Ireland final for the first time in 45 years in 2018, Patrickswell man Tony Hurley decided to commemorate the moment by designing an infinity symbol necklace for his wife and three daughters.

He had to order a minimum of 10 so he decided to give the rest to hurling fans he knew and as word spread he found himself receiving numerous requests for the necklaces.

Along with his wife Betty, Tony saw the opportunity to sell the necklaces and donate the proceeds to charity.

The couple gave the necklaces to people free of charge with the promise that they would donate €20 to a charity of their choice.

Over the last six years they have raised over €6,000 for charities including Adapt House and Milford Care Centre.

Sadlier’s Seafood on Roches Street has become the distribution centre for the necklaces with customers asked to donate €20 to the Adapt House fundraising box in exchange for the unique piece of jewellery.
