GARDAI have charged a Limerick man, aged in his 30s, in relation to a fatal assault of a man in Knockanure, Co Kerry in the early hours of Monday morning.
Knockanure is located only a couple of miles from the Kerry / Limerick border.
The accused is due to appear at a special sitting of Listowel District Court this Tuesday evening, May 28 at 6.30pm.
Gardaí and emergency services were alerted at approximately 12.30am on Monday regarding an alleged assault in the Knockanure village area, said a garda spokesperson.
"Upon arrival, a man aged in his 40s was discovered with fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene and his body has been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Kerry for postmortem," said the garda spokesperson.
The deceased has been named locally as Gerard Kennelly, aged in his 40s.
A second man in his 20s was arrested as part of the investigation.
