Development of new train station in Limerick moves a step closer

Councillor Novak says this is a positive step for the Moyross area

THE DEVELOPMENT of the new train station in Moyross has moved a step closer.

The non-statutory public consultation for the project has now started and will run until June 14.

An engineering firm - AtkinsRéalis - has now been appointed to come up with a preliminary design for the station, as well as supporting the planning process.

It’s expected that the station will be finished by the second half of 2026.

Ground investigations were carried out in March and the completion date is subject to planning and funding.

Councillor Saša Novak Uí Chonchúir has been working closely with the Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan TD, and Limerick city TD Brian Leddin to deliver this project.

“This is a huge opportunity for the northside of Limerick,” said Councillor Novak.

“The new train station in Moyross is more than just a station; it's a gateway to greater investment, new housing development opportunities and improved access to services.”

Cllr Novak said the public consultation is a good opportunity for people to make submissions and have their say.

“The introduction of the Moyross train station will provide significant benefits, including improved connectivity to the city centre and beyond, enhanced accessibility for residents, fostering greater social and economic inclusion, attraction of new businesses and investment to the northside,” she said.
