The HIQA report found that the storage of some items could have led to cross infection
A HIQA report into a nursing home in Ballysimon found there were not enough hand wash sinks for staff and that shower tiles in some of the ensuite bathrooms were damaged.
The Roseville House Nursing Home had an unannounced inspection.
It provides care to men and women for long-term, palliative, respite and convalescent care and there were 37 residents there for the inspection.
Residents reported delays and having to wait for care in the evenings. There were no outcomes of investigations into complaints.
Oxygen was stored inappropriately and could pose a fire risk.

The report found that storage facilities were inadequate and that some items were stored in a communal shower area, making it inaccessible to residents.
A communal toilet that was adjoining a bedroom also didn’t have a lock on it.
The storage of some items also posed a risk of cross infection.
The report also found that care plans were not reviewed or updated if the condition of a resident changed.
“For example, the care plan of a resident whose general condition had deteriorated had not been updated to reflect a significant increase in their care needs. Consequently, the care plan did not reflect the nursing and medical interventions required to support their needs,” the report said.
Residents appeared to be relaxed and comfortable in the nursing home and said their bedrooms were “comfortable and homely.”
They also had a variety of activities to participate in and were consulted about these.
Residents told inspectors they had a choice about how they spend their day.
The nursing home was also found to be substantially compliant for another five regulations.
They were deemed to be compliant in three regulations.
