Donnacha Ryan Luke memorial run returns

Ógie Stapleton, Cappamore, is looking forward to May 5

LIMERICK and Tipperary people will be adversaries during the Munster championship clash on Sunday, April 28 but on the following Sunday they will join together in memory of a young man who touched lives in both counties and further afield.

The second annual Donnacha Ryan Luke Memorial Run for trucks, tractors and cars starts in the Plaza in Tipperary Town and will travel to Doon Community Centre for a family fun day and live music on Sunday, May 5.

The young man from Shanacloon, Cappamore passed away days after his 18th birthday in a tragic road traffic incident in August 2022.

Donnacha loved anything with an engine so a memorial run, organised by his parents Mikey and Nicola, sister Aisling, and a hard-working committee, is the perfect way to honour his memory.

Last year, the Limerick Leader wrote that the Bog Road on the way to Doon looked like the Port of Dover due to the long line of trucks and another bumper entry is expected this year.

Nicola urges those attending to pre-register on the Donnacha Ryan Luke Memorial Run Facebook page. Last year, over €70,000 was raised for good causes and this year the beneficiaries will be Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust and Limerick Treaty Suicide Prevention. You can also donate through the Facebook page.

Once all the vehicles are parked up in Doon the drivers can enjoy food stalls, face painting and entertainment for the children.

Nicola says they will have a prize for best truck, tractor and car. Music that night is All Folk'd Up, DJ Dan and Silver Dollar which will start around 7pm for the adults.

Sunday, May 5 will be a day to remember Donnacha, share stories and raise funds for causes that are very close to people’s hearts just like Donnacha. Please see the Facebook page for details.
