A COLLECTION of artwork, intended to soften the clinical environment for patients at UHL, has been unveiled.

The artwork, secured by the UL Hospitals Group (ULHG) Arts Committee from the Limerick Arts Office in Limerick City and County Council, was officially opened by the Mayor of Limerick, Cllr Gerald Mitchell.

Also in attendance at the unveiling were Maura Fitzgerald of ULHG Arts Committee, Aoife O'Connell, assistant arts officer, Limerick Arts Office, Suzanne Dunne, chief of strategy and transformation, UHLG and Eimear Laffan, Healthy Ireland project manager.

This is one of a number of initiatives which the UL Hospitals Group Arts Committee is working on with partner organisations to broaden arts and health within the healthcare environment.

It also provides artists with an opportunity to engage with new audiences in new ways.

Works on loan include paintings by some of Ireland’s leading artists, providing them with an opportunity to engage with new audiences in new ways, and in particular with individuals who may have found the arts difficult to access due to the complexities of ill health.
