Derelict two-bed Limerick property being sold by council attracts 47 offers

The two-bedroom, semi-detached property located in Oola village was viewed 18 times by interested parties

A SEMI-DETACHED home in County Limerick in a derelict condition for a considerable period of time received 47 offers.

The proposed disposal of the property was on the agenda at the March meeting of the Cappamore-Kilmallock Municipal District.

A council official said the house is located at Gortakilleen, Oola, just off the main N24 road and close to the national school and church. It is a two bedroom abode sitting on a 0.21 acre site.

The property was entered on the Derelict Sites Register in July 2022 after statutory notices were served. Limerick City and County Council subsequently acquired the property compulsorily. The house was put up for sale last November.

“It was fully exposed to the market. There were a total of 31 enquiries and 18 viewings took place. Over the course of the marketing campaign, 10 parties submitted a total of 47 offers over 10 weeks,” said the council official.

The meeting heard that the highest bid was €83,500.

Mayor Gerald Mitchell asked if the prospective owner is finance approved? The council official said it was a cash buyer so no mortgage is required.

As the property is derelict, the proposed purchaser is furnished with copies of the derelict site notices affecting the property.

The purchaser is acquiring the house with full knowledge of the derelict site notices and covenants to complete the appropriate works so that the property is delisted from the Derelict Sites Register.

The proposed disposal will now be included on the agenda for the full council meeting in May.
