'Penneys' from heaven as landmark Limerick clock being repaired

ONE of Limerick's most prominent clocks is set to go tick-a-tock again, with repair works taking place this Monday evening.

For most of this year, the clock on the Penneys tower in O'Connell Street - formerly Cannock's - has been stopped with each of its four faces showing different times.

But workmen are on site repairing it, and it's hoped that soon, the correct time will once again be shown all round.

However, with the clocks set to move forward to Irish summer time in the early hours of Easter Sunday, it remains to be seen how long the correct time will be on display at the landmark location.

It was replaced in 1961, and again in the 1970s when Penneys opened in the city.
