SOUTHSIDE students have planted trees on a common area behind their school.

To mark National Tree Week, the fifth-class pupils at Gaelscoil Sheoirse Clancy put their spades in the ground to plant weeping willow, blackthorn and whitethorn saplings.

Their teacher Andrew O’Connor-Bray said: “It's something I'm involved with over the years. It's to give the students a knowledge of local trees, the importance of them, and to make them aware of the indigenous trees in the country.

“It's great, it gets them out. They love being out getting their hands dirty,” he smiled.
