Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan announced the allocation for funding to Local Authorities including Limerick City and County Council through Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) for National Roads and Greenways totalling nearly €40 million.

Fine Gael TD for Limerick City and Minister of State for Local Government and Planning, Kieran O’Donnell confirmed that the Adare Bypass project is targeted for completion by June 2027 – three months ahead of the monumental Ryder Cup to take place in Adare Manor in September 2027.

Mr O’Donnell said: "This €39,371,467 funding allocated from TII to Limerick City and County Council for 2024 today will cover routine maintenance to safeguard our road infrastructure, and progress our significant roads projects.

"I very much welcome €24 million announced for the Foynes to Limerick Road (including Adare Bypass) Project. Last year, Government approved accelerating the construction of the bypass section of the project to facilitate early delivery of the bypass ahead of the monumental Ryder Cup being held in Adare Manor in September 2027."

Mr O'Donnell confirmed that progress to accelerate the Adare bypass construction is very much on target.

"The project is expected to go out for contract tender this coming April. It is estimated that the contract for the project will be awarded in September 2024 with construction then getting underway and crucially, the date for completion of the Bypass is June 2027 – 3 months ahead of the Ryder Cup in September which is a very positive development.
