A MOTORIST who was driving at 154km/h on the motorway outside Nenagh has been fined for careless driving by Judge Elizabeth MacGrath at Nenagh District Court.
The speed limit was 120km/h, the court heard.
Patrick McCarthy of 29 Sharwood Estate, Newcastle West, county Limerick, had originally been charged with dangerous driving, but this was reduced to careless driving by Judge MacGrath after the court heard that the conditions on the day had been dry and the lighting good.
Mr McCarthy pleaded to the offence at Annaholty, Birdhill, on August 25, 2019.

The court heard Mr McCarthy had 11 previous convictions under the Road Traffic Act.
His solicitor, Johnny Spencer, told the court that Mr McCarthy was 26 years old and was married with three children, one of whom needed treatment at Crumlin Children's Hospital.
Judge MacGrath fined Mr McCarthy €200 and warned him that he needed to be “careful”.
Recognizance were set in Mr McCarthy’s own bond of €250.
