Limerick Courthouse, Mulgrave Street
A DEFENDANT is at large after fleeing from a courthouse in the city this Thursday, Limerick Live has learned.
The man absconded while in the custody of gardai in Limerick Courthouse on Mulgrave Street.
It is understood the accused was being taken from the circuit court to the district court when he bolted, ran down the stairs and out the front door of the courthouse. Gardai gave chase but the accused made good his escape.
A garda spokesperson said: "Gardai are investigating the escape from garda custody of a male that occurred on the afternoon of Thursday, February 8, 2024 from a courthouse in Limerick city."
It is believed when his case was called the judge was told he was no longer in the building. Gardai have not released the age of, or any description of the man but Limerick Live understands he is from the city.
"Investigations are ongoing at this time," said a garda spokesperson.
