Eight Limerick council projects shortlisted for national awards

THE LOCAL authority in Limerick is in the running for a number of national community awards.

Limerick City and County Council has been shortlisted in eight categories at the All Ireland Community and Council Awards 2024.

The awards, held in partnership with the Local Authority Members Association (LAMA) and IPB Insurance, aim to recognise and celebrate communities and councils who work together and reward unsung heroes making a contribution to people’s lives.

Among the projects shortlisted is the Limerick City and Environs Green and Blue project in the Best Environmental Project category.

This project aims to inform and guide the planning and management of green and blue spaces in Limerick city, including rivers, parks and open spaces.

The Brand Adare project, which aims to maximise opportunities from the lead-up to the duration and aftermath of the 2027 Ryder Cup, was shortlisted for the Best Tourism category.

The GoGreenRoutes, which is an international project which will see Limerick act as one of six international cities that are implementing “nature-based solutions,” has been selected for the Best Environmental Project category.

The Bruff to Holycross walking project has been shortlisted for the Best Community Transport category, while the Corporate Roundabout Scheme in Limerick was put forward for the Best CSR Project.

The Sky is the Limit project in Moyross, which aims to promote positive mental health strategies, has been shortlisted for the Best Mental Health Initiative project.

Additionally, St Mary’s Park resident Anthony O’Donnell has been shortlisted for Community Volunteer of the Year 2024 for his volunteer work at King’s Island Community Centre.
