Limerick house broken into while owners on holidays

GARDAÍ are offering advice to people who are leaving their homes to go on holidays this winter.

On Saturday, January 20 a house in Adare was broken into. The homeowners were away and the criminals broke in through a rear patio door.

Sergeant Ber Leetch, crime prevention officer at Henry Street garda station gave advice to homeowners on how to protect their homes while they are away.

"If you are leaving your home, it is wise to ask neighbours to keep an eye on it and to park their car in your driveway.

"Also light up your home using lights on timers, this gives the impression that somebody is inside. Set your home intruder alarm and if you do not have one installed make this a priority and get one fitted.

"If criminals break in and the alarm is ringing, they will not delay for fear of being caught".
