Green Party finalises its line up in the Limerick metro district

THE Green Party in Limerick has finalised its line up for the local elections in the metropolitan district.
Sitting councillors Sasa Novak, City North and Sean Hartigan, City East, will be joined on the ticket by Peter Spencer, who will contest City West.
Councillor Novak was co-opted onto the local authority following the election of her party colleague Brian Leddin to Dail Eireann in early 2020.
Married to Eoin, she lives in Mayorstone with their two young boys.
Originally from Slovenia, she has been living in Limerick for the last 16 years.
She said: “Limerick is a compact city. We can create vibrant communities and I think we need to focus on building high quality and affordable housing around a network of cycle lanes, pedestrian infrastructure and excellent public transport links close to local services, shops and schools.
"Over the last three years we have seen great strides being made especially in the area of active travel, namely the development of new cycle lanes and improvements to footpaths. This is in no small part due to having the Green Party in government and having a strong green voice on council.”
If elected, she says she will focus on making local streets safer for walking, improving cycling infrastructure and delivering new and affordable homes.
Councillor Hartigan will bid for re-election, having become only the second Green Party candidate returned to the council in more than 40 years, back in 2019.
Based in Lisnagry, he has worked in environmental education for 25 years including work with local green-schools on waste management.
