Registration open for Team Limerick Clean-Up's ninth event

Volunteers and TLC co-founders JP McManus, Paul O’Connell and Helen O’Donnell gather in Garryowen for TLC8

REGISTRATION has opened for the 9th edition of Team Limerick Clean-Up.

Ireland's largest one-day clean up takes place on Good Friday, March 29 across the city and county.

Founders of the Team Limerick Clean-Up initiative, JP McManus, Paul O’Connell and Helen O’Donnell, are urging volunteers to sign up early on www.teamlimerickcleanup.ie.

To support the circular economy, litter pickers will be given to new volunteer groups only, as regular groups will have stock from previous years’ clean ups.

This year, volunteers are encouraged to invite new neighbours to join them and to foster an even stronger sense of pride in their community and care for their local environment.

To help with this, TLC will be providing supplies for the popular tea and coffee gatherings, which will be held at locations throughout the city and county.

Last year, over 21,500 volunteers took part in TLC8. This was made up of 568 groups, including 85 schools and 56 businesses.

Later in January, TLC will be releasing a brand-new podcast with well-known media presenter Meghann Scully as host.

Commenting on the TLC9 launch, Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Gerald Mitchell said: "With the promise of Spring in the air it is time for a call to action for Ireland’s largest one-day clean up.

"We are very fortunate in Limerick that TLC has become a firmly established highlight in the annual calendar of events.

"It brings people together and helps to instil a sense of pride while showing how much the people of Limerick care for the environment. Let’s all heed the call and together we will create a cleaner and greener Limerick."

Founding member Helen O'Donnell expressed her delight at the growing popularity of the initiative, saying: "It’s brilliant to see the growth in popularity of TLC year-on-year. Limerick has always held such passion for its county and its people, and every Good Friday we see the best of that. Let’s make TLC9 even better than the last."

Deadline for registration for this year’s event is Friday, March 15 for schools and businesses and Monday, March 18 for volunteer groups.

Sponsored by the JP McManus Benevolent Fund and supported by Limerick City and County Council, TLC last year saw 59 tonnes of litter collected, which is equivalent to approximately 2400 household wheelie bins.

Official TLC partners are Mr. Binman, Limerick Leader, Limerick Post, I Love Limerick, Elive, Live95 and Dunnes Stores.
