A HEARTWARMING and festive social media video campaign has been launched in Limerick and local farmers are being asked to take part in the fun.

Agri Aware, a leading agricultural awareness body, has launched the campaign, entitled Savour Local Flavour This Christmas.

The initiative aims to acknowledge and support the tireless efforts of farmers, in Limerick and further afield, who work around the clock, 365 days a year, to provide the nation with quality food.

As families prepare to come together during the holiday season, Agri Aware seeks to shine a spotlight on the dedicated farmers responsible for the local fresh Irish produce that graces Christmas dinner tables across the country.

Limerick farmers play a pivotal role in cultivating and producing a diverse range of food, from delectable meats to flavourful vegetables, all year round.

This Christmas campaign is designed to showcase the faces behind the food and emphasise the importance of supporting local agriculture.

The campaign encourages farmers to take centre stage in 30-second videos, introducing themselves and proudly displaying the food they produce.

This farmer-driven initiative aims to highlight the crucial role of agriculture in ensuring a bountiful supply of food for the nation.

Running until Christmas Eve, the campaign seeks to create a meaningful connection between consumers and the farmers who work tirelessly to put food on their tables.

To spread awareness, participants are urged to tag Agri Aware on all social media platforms and use the hashtag #savourlocal when sharing their videos.

Agri Aware chairman, Shay Galvin, emphasised the importance of recognising the efforts of farmers, especially at a time when they face many external pressures.

“This campaign is to put faces to the produce we are lucky to buy in the shop and give credit where it’s often not given,” he said.

The Croom man continued: “At a time when Irish farmers are under pressure to remain viable be it due to economic policy or environmental pressures, it’s important we take a step back and remember the work farmers do across all sectors to put food on our tables.”

“At times, we can take for granted the work farmers do when we simply walk into the shop to pick up a carton of milk, a pound of butter, vegetables or a cut of delicious meat from the butcher counter.”

Noting the importance of the campaign, he added: “We are asking farmers across the country, across all sectors, to showcase who they are, what they produce, and the important role agriculture plays in feeding consumers nationally and internationally through this campaign.”
