Maura O'Neill presents the monthly award to Roger and Tony Daly, Daly's Hardware PICTURE: ADRIAN BUTLER
THE OWNERS of a well-respected family hardware store in Limerick city centre have been honoured by Limerick Tidy Towns.
The group has given the final bi-monthly award for 2023 to Daly’s Hardware, located in William Street.
Maura O’Neill of the Tidy Towns team said: “We usually select our November-December winners specifically for their Christmas décor, but Daly’s ticks far more boxes than that. Not only do they have gorgeous Christmas window displays at this time of year, but their signage, lighting and beautifully painted exterior also looks great all year round.”
Daly’s Hardware was founded in 1957 by Joe Daly, a member of a family steeped in hardware expertise for generations.
Right up until his sad passing in July this year, he could often be seen in the store welcoming customers.
Daly’s Hardware and Electrical is Limerick City Tidy Town’s sixth and final winner of 2023, and is in with a chance to be the overall winner for 2023 at next year’s annual event.
Staff there will face competition from other winners this year - Dolan’s, Rift Cafe, The Flower Studio, O’Mahony’s Booksellers, and the French Table.
Limerick Tidy Towns volunteers meet to stage a clean-up of the city every Sunday morning outside The White House pub at 11am.
