The incident happened in the Colmanswell area of County Limerick
THE importance of having good neighbours was highlighted recently when a burglary was prevented in a rural part of County Limerick.
According to gardai, a man in his sixties, who lives in the Colmanswell area, saw three men acting suspiciously when he went outside to lock his front gate.
"It was around 8.50pm and it was dark but he saw three males run down the middle of the road from the direction of his neighbour’s house. This man knew that his neighbours were not at home, so he contacted gardai and his neighbour who returned home immediately," said crime prevention officer, Sergeant Ber Leetch.
"It was very clear that the three males had tried to force the front window of the house but they were disturbed by the neighbour and did not succeed," she added.
The garda advice is to light up your home if you are going out after dark and to be a good neighbour by keeping an eye on each other’s property.
