STRIDING towards fostering research, development, and innovation (RDI) in the Mid-West, Enterprise Ireland (EI) engaged in a collaborative meeting with the Technological University of the Shannon’s (TUS) RDI division.
The discussion centred around various EI-supported programmes that aim to provide companies and entrepreneurs continuous access to cutting-edge research, equipment, and facilities across the six TU campuses.
In June, Ministers Simon Coveney and Dara Calleary, along with Enterprise Ireland, announced a substantial €47 million funding injection for the continuation of the Enterprise Ireland Technology Gateway Programme until 2029.
Over €10 million of this funding has been designated for four projects rooted in TUS, along with an extra €5 million in capital funding.
This week brought further good news for TUS, as it secured the highest cohort of Enterprise Ireland’s Capital Equipment Funding for 14 initiatives.
This funding injection will fortify TUS gateways, positioning them at the forefront of strategic RDI projects and fostering collaborations between the Technological University sector, Irish SMEs, and multinational companies.
Dr Liam Brown, Vice President for Research Development and Innovation at TUS stated: "This is a clear endorsement by Enterprise Ireland on the ability of TUS to deliver projects, processes products and technologies that will make a meaningful impact on the competitiveness of Irish businesses and deliver on the ambitious EI metrics of increased jobs and exports."
Through the Technology Gateway Funding, TUS aims to encourage and support businesses in innovating and developing a competitive edge.
The focus areas include manufacturing and materials engineering, biotechnology, life sciences, health and food, information and communication technology, digitalisation, design thinking, creative technologies, and sustainable development.
The Enterprise Ireland Technology Gateway Programme in TUS is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the ERDF Southern, Eastern & Midland Regional Programme 2021-27.
These investments are poised to drive innovation, job creation, and economic growth in both the Midlands and Mid-West regions, solidifying Ireland’s position as a hub for modern research and development.
