New campaign launched to promote events in Limerick this Christmas

With aerial acrobatics, ice skating and circus performances, street shows, Santa visits and pantos there is something magical for everyone to enjoy this Christmas

WITH just five weeks to go to Christmas Day, a new campaign has been launched to promote festive events which are planned across Limerick city and county.

With aerial acrobatics, ice skating and circus performances, street shows, Santa visits and pantos there is something magical for everyone to enjoy.

Members of the public are being encouraged to indulge in the seasonal atmosphere with shopping trips, lively nights out, fashion shows, choral concerts, opera and theatre performances.

A comprehensive event guide is available to download and view here with a print version being distributed to businesses and various locations right across the city and county.

As part of the campaign, there will also be Christmas in Limerick messaging across social media, radio and newspapers over the coming weeks.

Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Gerald Mitchell is encouraging people to make the most the festive offerings locally.

“Limerick has it all this Christmas with exciting events and activities that promise to make this season truly special. Explore traditional markets, captivating entertainment, a dazzling display of lights, and unparalleled hospitality. Remember to shop local, shop Limerick. Let’s fill this holiday season with joy, laughter, and the magic of community,” he said.

Some of the events which will take place in Limerick over the Christmas season include

Christmas in Limerick Seasonal Street Shows – Free Family Fun

Limerick city’s streets will be full of Christmas cheer each weekend in December with jugglers, stilt walkers, mischievous elves, bearded ballerinas and wacky walkabout performers running amok. With kids discos and live music from Music Generation, take a break from Christmas shopping to soak up the festive atmosphere.

Limerick On Ice

One of Limerick’s most celebrated attractions skates back into Arthur’s Quay Park this Friday November 24. Whether you’re a seasoned skater or complete beginner, this is the ultimate winter fun activity. 

Fossett’s Christmas Circus at Cleeves

From December 15 to January 7 step into Christmas at the Circus big top and be swept away with amazing acrobatics, daredevil stunts and a sprinkle of Fossett magic in a unique Circus Show - a must see in Limerick this Christmas!  

Firestorm by Rogu – Free Family Fun

Hot off their crowd pleasing performance at Limerick Riverfest, Rogu are back to light up the night at Mechant’s Quay on Sunday, December 3. Ireland’s premier fire performance company will present a unique Christmas themed show with a fantastic mix of music, fire, sparks and an epic finale! 

Christmas in Limerick Aerial Extravaganza at King John’s Castle

On Saturday, December 16 world class performers Fidget Feet will put on an aerial extravaganza featuring works of beauty, mystery and a sprinking of Christmas cheer! Pre-booking essential! 

Christmas at Limerick Milk Market

Popular at any time of year the Limerick Milk Market pulls out all the stops at Christmas time with a range of themed markets, handmade crafts and gifts, seasonal foods, local fashion and festive fun throughout the month of December.

Toots the Train

Hop on board Toots the Christmas Train for a whistle stop tour of Limerick city’s festive sights and lights. This wheelchair and buggy accessible transport is making tracks from December 8. 

International Christmas and Winter in Limerick – A Celebration

Free family fun as we celebrate Christmas customs and winter traditions with our international communities in Limerick! Experience international theatre, food, music, dance and stories from around the globe. 

Christmas shoppers and visitors to Limerick city can avail of more than 9,000 designated on and off street car parking spaces, 46km of dedicated cycle lanes and over 30 bus routes serving the city, county and region. 

From this weekend, there will be free parking each Saturday in the Limerick City and County Council Car Park behind Merchant’s Quay with access via Nicholas Street. The car park will also be available between 9am and 4pm on Christmas Eve.
