LIMERICK camogie players will embrace the cold as they “take the plunge” as part of a charity drive for Focus Ireland.
The event, aptly titled Take The Plunge for Focus Ireland, will see participants brace cold Irish seas at several locations across the country, with the first of the events on Saturday, November 25.
The final plunge will take place on Saturday, December 2, in partnership with Limerick Camogie at Ringmoylan Pier, Pallaskenry.
Those who want to partake, but are unable to reach the allotted locations at the given times, are invited to join the cause by taking the plunge at their local beach and making a donation.
According to Marian Quinn chairperson of Limerick Camogie, Focus Ireland’s three-year Partnership with Limerick Camogie began on December 2021, and will run until December 2024.
“Last year Limerick Camogie raised a total of a whopping €26,000 from their Dip in December at Ringmoylan Pier, with 50% of Donations going to Focus Ireland. We hope to surpass this amount this year and are looking forward to being a part of Take the Plunge For Focus Ireland’s fundraising campaign,” Ms Quinn added.
Cully & Sully, the Cork-based soup makers, are supporting the event and will provide a well-deserved hot snack for all participants on the day. They will also provide swim hats for the first 50 registrations in each area.
Lorraine Toner, Head of National community fundraising at Focus Ireland, expresses her enthusiasm for the event, stating,
“This event is not just about taking a plunge into the sea; it's about taking a plunge for change. It's a call to action to end homelessness and make a real impact on the lives of those in need.
“By participating in 'Take The Plunge for Focus Ireland,' you're not only embracing the cold waters but also the opportunity to create a brighter future for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Ireland. Join us in this inspiring movement, and together, we can turn the tide on homelessness and bring warmth and hope to those in need,” she added.
According to figures from Focus Ireland, there are there are 12,827 individuals, including 3,904 children, experiencing homelessness across Ireland.
