POST mortems are to be carried out on the bodies of a man and a woman which were discovered at a house in County Clare on Thursday afternoon.

Gardaí say they are investigating all the circumstances of the deaths and that a Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed.

"Gardaí were called to a domestic residence in Killinaboy at approximately 2.30pm where a man and a woman, aged in their 50s, were found deceased. Their bodies remain at the scene," said a garda spokesperson who confirmed the deceased were known to each other.

The scene of the discovery remains preserved pending an examination by the members of Garda National Technical Bureau.

The local coroner has been notified and the services of the Office of the State Pathologist have been requested.

Gardai say a Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to the family of the deceased and that an incident room has been established at Ennis garda station.

Anyone who may have information about what happened is asked to come forward.
