SEROSEP, a leading laboratory diagnostics specialists company in Annacotty have been named the Limerick Persons of the Month.

The company was given the award to recognise their work in the surrounding community and further afield.

The business is known to support a variety of educational, sporting and charity organisations in their locality, throughout county Limerick and abroad.

Speaking at the award presentation at the Clayton Hotel in Limerick, Barbara Kelly, human resources manager at Serosep said it was an “honour” to accept the award on behalf of all the staff.

“We are totally overwhelmed and delighted to receive this award. It is really an honour.”

The company was founded in 1997 by Dermot and Noreen Scanlon and has been based in Annacotty since then.

Serosep is a leading provider of medical diagnostic solutions, specialising in the development, manufacture and distribution of medical devices and consumables for use in clinical microbiology laboratories.

The company encourages employee involvement in community initiatives, supporting causes such as cancer research, aid for the Ukraine initiative and local charities such as football and rugby team sponsorship, BUMBLEance and local nursing homes.

One of their biggest projects so far was in 2019 when they assisted Limerick Suicide Watch achieve their goal of putting a mobile unit on the road.

The mobile unit helps them to spread their message across the county and break down the stigma behind mental health.

When the Ukraine/Russia conflict broke out in 2022, the company was quick to help send aid to war-torn Ukraine.

Anna Mazeika works as a HR officer and is a native of Ukraine.

When the war began she decided to start an initiative to gather and send aid to Ukraine to help those who had been affected.

Serosep CEO, Dermot Scanlon, got behind the initiative in a huge way – with the company financially supporting the endeavour and covering the cost of transport over two trips.

A total of 44 tonnes of what was mostly medical supplies was collected and sent out.

Serosep’s story began when Mr Scanlon spotted a gap in the market to provide clinical diagnostics laboratories with high-quality products from manufacturers that were not established in the Irish market.

The business has continued to expand since its inception and in 2011 they set up their own subsidiary in Crawley, UK.

They now employ over 120 people across their Limerick and UK sites.

When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, the company rapidly developed a PCR test which was manufactured in Annacotty.

In November 2021, Serosep was awarded the prestigious accolade of Irish Medtech Company of the year.

The Limerick Person of the Month award is jointly sponsored by the Limerick Leader, media agency Southern, and the Clayton Hotel.
