A SPECIAL training exercise saw 50 Limerick soldiers abseil down one of the city's most iconic landmarks.

The 12th Infantry Battalion abseiled down King John's Castle as part of the Defence Forces Confidence Training, in order to build the mental fortitude of soldiers.

The Battalion are based at Sarsfield Barracks on Lord Edward Street in the city.

The role of this training is primarily to have soldiers confront their fears, and reinforce their ability to follow orders in stressful situations.
