Lottery for lower rent houses in Limerick goes live

A COST rental lottery scheme to deliver over 30 new homes in Limerick has been launched.

Circle Voluntary Housing Association (VHA), a provider of affordable housing solutions, has launched a cost rental lottery for 34 homes at The Mills in Castletroy, Limerick. 

This is the first scheme of its kind to be launched in Limerick and is described as a “significant step” toward providing affordable housing solutions to the community.

The application process is live from Wednesday, November 1 and will remain open for 7 days, concluding with the lottery draw on November 8, which is overseen by the Housing Agency.

“As the private rental market in Castletroy currently offers limited availability, the introduction of viable housing options at The Mills represents a significant step toward addressing housing demand in the area,” said John Hannigan, CEO, Circle VHA.

“These cost rental homes will provide a valuable pipeline of affordable secure long-term rental accommodation. 

“Our commitment to the delivery of mixed tenure housing estates provides diverse housing options that foster inclusive communities and reduce socioeconomic segregation, allowing a range of individuals and families to find suitable homes within the same neighbourhood and community.”

The 34 homes offer a reduction in rent of 29% compared to current market rates, with monthly rates starting from just €1,278. They are A-rated terraced and semi-detached homes. 

Availability of these 34 homes, as part of Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the development, is expected from mid-December 2023 and are open for application to those with a maximum net household income figure below €59,000. 

The term 'cost rental' signifies that the rent is based on the actual cost of constructing, managing, and maintaining the homes, resulting in more affordable housing solutions.
