Adare Manor Ryder Cup

“THE HYPE is real, it is very exciting and it is going to be a special experience”.

The words of Brendan O’Connor, general manager of Adare Manor, speaking about the resort’s plans for hosting the Ryder Cup in 2027.

Mr O’Connor was speaking from Rome where a small delegation from the hotel and the local authority visited this year’s competition to learn more about what is involved in running the third largest sporting event in the world.

Preparations have already started for when the world’s top golfers come to Limerick which will be the biggest sport event the treaty county has ever seen.

Speaking to Ray Scott for Live 95, Mr O’Connor said the delegation had learned a lot from the 2023 event that could be applied to the 2027 competition.

“We will need support from the village, the region and the wider Limerick area of course but anything with careful planning will run smoothly.

“Enquiries and bookings have started already and we have met with sponsors while we are here as well.

“The Ryder Cup team opened an expression of interest page already which they have never done before for any other venue this far in advance.

Speaking about why Adare Manor is such a unique venue for the event, the general manager said: “Having the players and their families stay on site makes for a very special experience.

“They can get up in the morning and their view is the course they are going to play on that day”.

The 2027 Ryder Cup will be extra special as it also marks the centenary of the event.

“How we celebrate is to be decided but there is nowhere better to celebrate than at a resort that has significant history itself”, said Mr O’Connor.

750,000 people applied for the 250,000 tickets available for the event however, Mr O’Connor said there is room for additional capacity in the earlier days for the practice rounds.
