THE EIGSE literary and arts festival will commemorate the late poet Michael Harnett in Limerick this weekend.
Newcastle West, the town that was home and helped shape the late writer, Michael Hartnett, will play host to a wide range of talented poets, writers, musicians, singers and artists in a packed programme of exciting and engaging events.
This Thursday, October 5 at 7pm, The Hit Machine Drummers will perform in the square before leading a Lantern Parade through the town to the opening ceremony in Newcastle West Library.
On the same day at 8pm in Newcastle West Square, the festival will officially open with the Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Gerard Mitchell, followed by the presentation of the Michael Hartnett Poetry Award to this year’s winner.
At 8.30pm, a special collaboration between the festival and Cleary’s Window Sessions at Cleary’s Bar, South Quay, will see Jack O'Rourke perform an intimate gig.
On Friday, October 6, A Cuppa and a Poem will take place at Marguerite’s, The Square at 10.30am.
At 11.30am in Desmond Complex, local genealogist Ger Greaney will share a special presentation with the local Women’s Shed.
With Tales from a Colourful Life, author Michael Harding will entertain an audience with excerpts from his many best selling books, at 1pm in Desmond Ability Complex
At 6pm in the Longcourt House Hotel, writer Pat McLoughlin will launch his latest novel, The Unbreakable Dream.
On Saturday, October 7, at 8pm in the Longcourt House Hotel, novelist Karl Geary will weave magic with words, reading from his latest book, Juno loves Legs, while Limerick's own Emma Langford will beguile with her songs.
At 3pm in Courtenay National School, Callback Theatre will present a magical hour of puppet theatre for five to nine year olds with Dorothy Dolittle’s Magical Adventure.
A mini-market with a variety of stalls will bring a buzz to Sunday afternoon, from 3pm in Desmond Complex.
