Warning of power outages and fallen trees in Limerick as Storm Agnes batters the country

A status yellow wind warning came into effect at 7am

MOTORISTS in Limerick and across the country are being asked to exercise caution if travelling this Wednesday as Storm Agnes batters much of the country.

Met Éireann has issued a number of status orange and status yellow weather warnings and the forecaster is warning of high winds in Limerick and Clare.

A status yellow wind warning for Limerick came into effect at 7am and remains in effect until midnight.

The Road Safety Authority says it will become very windy this Wednesday with very strong and gusty southerly winds, veering westerly later on. "There will be the possibility of coastal flooding, difficult travel conditions, power outages and some fallen trees," said a spokesperson.

Crews from Limerick City and County Council have been briefed and are on standby to respond to incidents where required and once it is safe to do so.

A status orange wind warning for counties Cork, Kerry, Tipperary, Waterford, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow Cork comes into effect at 9am and will remain valid until 5pm.

A separate status orange rain warning for Cork, Kerry and Waterford also comes into effect at 9am. It will remain in place until 3pm.
