A TOTAL of €7.35 million has been granted to Limerick City and County Council for 98 affordable purchase housing units in Patrickswell.
The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage funding will result in 98 homes made available to first-time buyers and those where the fresh start principle applies. They will be part of the An Tobar housing development.
The affordable home purchase scheme helps people on moderate incomes to buy new homes at reduced prices. Through this affordable housing scheme, Limerick City and County Council will take a percentage equity share (share of the ownership) in the home. Click here for full details
It is anticipated first-time buyers will see a reduction of up to €75,000 depending on their income.
Deputy Mayor of the City and County of Limerick Dan McSweeney said this is welcome news not only for Patrickswell but the whole city and county.
"These 98 units will provide young people of our city and county the opportunity to purchase their own home with the support of the department.
"It is a really exciting time for Patrickswell as this is the first major private housing development to occur in the village for over 35 years," said Cllr McSweeney.
He continued: "I look forward to purchasers getting their keys in the coming months and I do believe we need to see more development of affordable purchase units like these across our city and county."
This scheme is being delivered by Lioscarran Group.
It is hoped the first phase of these 98 private units will be brought to market before the end of the year.
