Thousands of Limerick students to receive CAO offers

THOUSANDS of students across Limerick are awaiting their CAO offers today after receiving their Leaving Cert results on Friday.

A total of 2,669 students sat the Leaving Certificate back in June at schools across the city and county and students in Villiers School in the city said they were relieved as they opened the envelope.

“Good, happy with it, got more than I needed for sure, a few shockers in there, got a H1 in French which I wasn't expecting at all, very, very happy.

“I got about 576, really didn't expect that,” Tommy Rice from Cratloe said.

Students now must wait for the CAO offers to arrive from 2pm today before they can accept places in universities and colleges.

St Clement's College in the city was a hive of activity as former students collected the all important envelope while first years began their post primary school education.

Shane Downey from Caherdavin was delighted with his results and shared his plans for the future: “I'm hoping to go to Mary I just around the corner to do primary school teaching so hopefully with the way the results went this morning, I should be able to do that”.

Ethan McMahon from Raheen said he ended up “quite happy” with his results but came into school with an open mind as he prepares to further his education.

“My plan next is to go over to TUS over in Moylish and hopefully get a course, it's Renewable Energy and Electrical Engineering.

“There's so many new ways renewable energy can come into effect so I personally just want to find new ways to help the community,” he told the Limerick Leader.

CAO round one offers will be sent on August 30 with round two on September 11.
