Racecourse all set for a Limerick Show-stopper this weekend

IF YOU'RE looking for a new job, love the singer Declan Nerney, want to lift the Liam MacCarthy Cup or learn more about sustainability, then the Limerick Show has you covered.
Up to 15,000 visitors, 1,000 competitors and 150 trade exhibitors will descend on Limerick Racecourse this Sunday, August 27, to experience a unique event which aims to bring the people of Limerick city and county together.
Show president, Leo Walsh, said the event has always been about showcasing the very best of Limerick.
“We hope that this year, more than ever, people will come out and support the local farmers, producers and exhibitors,” said Mr Walsh, who thanked lead sponsor, AMCS.
“We’re thrilled to have AMCS on board as our lead sponsors again for 2023. Having a connection with a strong Limerick-based company was important for us and AMCS is a great example of a Limerick success story.
“Limerick Show has been a huge part of the local social calendar since the first show took place in 1929. This tradition lives on today and we’re delighted that AMCS is supporting us and helping keep the tradition alive,” said Mr Walsh.
A careers village, sustainability and agtech hub, HSE health and wellbeing showcase and a Limerick Clare Education Training Board marquee demonstrate how the show is moving with the times.
There will be live music and dancing from Shaun O’Dowd and Declan Nerney, a fashion show by Celia Holman Lee at 4pm, and 'kids zone', sponsored by O'Sullivan's Centras, with free entertainment, amusements, magic show, pony rides, train, and animal farm.
There is free entry for children under 16. Patrons can shop to their heart's content at the indoor and outdoor retail village, artisan food stalls, and lots more.
Limerick Show hasn't deviated away from its roots either as there will be a first class cattle section befitting a proud farming county like Limerick. Limerick Show is renowned for showcasing the best of Irish horse breeding.
This year is no exception, as one of the special features is a festival of Irish Breeding presented by the Traditional Irish Horse Association. This incorporates the famous Limerick Lady and Matron Championships.
Other attractions include show jumping, craft, art, photography, baking classes, horticulture exhibits and dog show.
Many historic cups will be handed out but one that is going nowhere is Liam MacCarthy. Queues are guaranteed by people anxious to emulate Cian Lynch and Declan Hannon this year.
Limerick Show is even putting on free bus trips from the city to the racecourse and home again afterwards. For exact locations and times, and for everything that is happening at Limerick Show see their Facebook page.
