Hat in the ring: Michael Ryan, wife Teresa and daughter Ríona
AONTÚ has announced Michael Ryan will represent the party in the Cappamore-Kilmallock Municipal District in next year's local elections in Limerick.
The Pallasgreen man ran for the party in Limerick City East in 2019 and was within 50 votes of taking a seat.
The retired school principal also ran in the 2020 General Election in the city where he got 1,553 first preferences.
Now, for the first time, Mr Ryan will stand in the area he lives in.
He is married to Teresa and they have five grown up children.
“As a father of a grown-up daughter, Ríona, with an intellectual disability, I am strongly committed to pushing for housing and proper services for those with disabilities, especially as their parents grow older,” he said.
Mr Ryan has been a community activist in Pallasgreen for over 40 years. As chair of Pallasgreen/Templebraden Community Council the community centre has been completely renovated, provided a children's playground and fought for improved infrastructure such as footpaths.
