A render of the new student apartment complex
PLANS for a new apartment block for third-level students in Limerick have been green-lit by council.
Westbourne Student Residences have received conditional planning permission for a new three-storey student complex near Mary Immaculate College.
Building is set to take place at Courtbrack Avenue, and will see 22 new student bedrooms spread over three floors, according to an outline provided by the developer to council planners.
The area is already home to three more student accommodation blocks, with the developer saying this fourth unit will pave the way for a full-time staff presence on site.
In terms of the new building, the ground floor will see six student en-suite bedrooms, one of which will be wheelchair accessible.
Eight student bedrooms will be located on the first floor, and two amenity spaces, including a kitchen.
And on the top floor, there will be eight bedrooms, and two amenity spaces including a kitchen.
There will also be alterations to the existing Westbourne Student Accommodation car park, including access to it.
The original buildings, built around 1995, were initially hostels until they were vacated and fell into disrepair during the Covid-19 pandemic.
