In Pictures: Cappamore Show launch celebrates outgoing chairperson

THE LOUDEST cheer at the launch of this year’s Cappamore Show was for the outgoing chairperson Marie Hayes.

She steps down from her role after 16 years. However, the popular lady is still involved and will continue to share her decades of experience.

The show is in safe hands as John McCarthy, son of the legendary president Jimmy McCarthy who sadly passed away earlier this year, is taking up the reins. The late Mr McCarthy was the last member of the show with unbroken service since it was formed back in 1954.

Pat Fogarty, acting president, said Mr McCarthy was active in the show up to his recent illness.

“It is great to see John as chairman and brothers Seamus and Mike both involved. It's a great tradition,” said Mr Fogarty.John Hassett, show secretary who took on the role after the passing of another show legend, Paddy Ryan “Luke”, said Jimmy would be very proud of his son John in the new role, as well as his sons' and grandchildren' participation.

“It is fantastic to see the next generation coming along and I would like to acknowledge his predecessor Marie Hayes and all the work she did as chairperson for 16 years but also the 60 plus years as a show member,” said Mr Hassett. John McCarthy also thanked Mrs Hayes for her volunteerism.

“I don't think I’ll last as long but I’ll take it year by year,” he smiled.

The launch is about thanking sponsors, without whom there wouldn't be a show, and looking forward to this year's event on Saturday, August 19.
