Man takes on 23 peak challenge in memory of Ashling Murphy

PAUL Tierney has taken on the challenge of cycling and running 23 peaks in honour of Ashling Murphy, who was tragically killed in January 2022. She was a primary school teacher who studied in Limerick's Mary Immaculate College, graduating three months previous.

The challenge is to conquer the 23 highest peaks in the Republic of Ireland on a continuous expedition, unaided and travelling via bike and on foot while sleeping/camping using a tent and camping equipment he will carry as part of the challenge.

Two Limerick mountains make up the 23 peaks, Lyracappul and Temple Hill in Galtymore.

Paul will also take on mountain ranges in Kerry, Wicklow, Mayo, Carlow, Waterford and Tipperary.

The challenge will start and finish in Ashling’s hometown of Blueball, Co Offaly. He sets off on his challenge this August and is set to complete it in 10 days with all donations to be shared between the Ashling Murphy Memorial Fund and the Children’s Grief Centre.

The Ashling Murphy Memorial Fund promotes and enhances Irish traditional arts and culture for young people.

Children's Grief Centre supports children and young people affected by loss and grief.
